Celebrating Buddy's BIG Birthday ALL YEAR
The BIG celebration day of Buddy's 60th birthday was National BGMC
Day, March 8, 2009. But churches across the nation continue to celebrate Buddy's birthday throughout the year. Feel free to celebrate Buddy's Birthday any day that works
best for you.
For 60 years, BGMC has been making a difference in the lives of people around the world. For 60 years, BGMC has been supplying missionaries with whatever they need to spread the gospel message. And for 60 years, BGMC has been instilling a heart for missions in the lives of kids. Just think, BGMC is turning "60" in "09"! (See what happens when you flip the numbers.)
Start planning now how you will celebrate this event at your church. Here are some ideas:
- Have a giant BGMC birthday party that includes cake and other goodies.
- Decorate your church platform, foyer, and classrooms with the giant inflatable Buddy birthday cake.
- Give the kids BGMC birthday hats and other birthday party items to celebrate with.
- Show the special birthday video clip.
- Show the special birthday slide presentation.
- Have a special BGMC banquet.
- Invite missionaries to share how BGMC has blessed their ministry.
- Challenge your kids to give Buddy an extra special present by raising extra money for BGMC.
- Take up a special birthday/anniversary offering from the adults.
- Pass out the special commemorative Buddy boxes to everyone in the church and take up a special offering.
- Do fun things centering around the number "60."
SPECIAL BIRTHDAY YEAR CHALLENGE
BGMC is setting a special 60th birthday/anniversary national BGMC goal of $6 million dollars. The most ever given to BGMC has been $5.7 million dollars. Let's all go above and beyond during this special year, and let's break all records! If BGMC reaches $6 million for 2009, then David Boyd, the national BGMC director, will take a Polar Bear Plunge into Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, in February 2010.
The national BGMC office challenged each church to make a special BGMC birthday goal for 2009. Why not set your own church record for 2009? We asked each church to e-mail or call in their goal to their district office by March 31. The district offices then gathered the goals and drew the names of two churches to win a special prize. In turn, we give away a seven foot inflatable Buddy Barrel and an electronic scrolling BGMC banner to the districts to award the winning churches.
If you missed the deadline still pray, set a goal, and contact your district office. (For information on how to contact your district office, click here.)
For a special birthday challenge for your kids (and adults), challenge all of them to give at least $5 a month to BGMC. This totals $60 for the 60th birthday/anniversary year.
BIRTHDAY RESOURCES
BGMC has created lots of fun resources to help celebrate this big event. Click here to view and to order these resources. Many of these resources commemorate this event and will only be available during 2009. We are also featuring resources that you can buy to decorate and celebrate by having a big birthday party.
In closing, we just want to say thank for all you do to reach the world and for all you do to teach your kids about missions!
