Make the 60th Anniversary Goal Setting a Reality!
Mary Boyd, BGMC coordinator
BGMC had a great year in 2008, and we're having an awesome year in 2009 as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of BGMC and Buddy's big 60th birthday!
To help with our 60th celebration, we're doing several items. First of all, we asked every church to set a BGMC goal and to either e-mail or call that goal into their district office by March 31. Click here for the contact information for your district.
Please remember that some states are grouped together to form a district and some states are divided into two districts. The list is in "district" order. If you don't know what district you are in, then contact the national BGMC office at 417.862.2781, ext. 4021.
On
April 1 each district drew two church names to win a grand prize
provided by BGMC. One church will win the large seven foot inflatable Buddy
Barrel (value of $139.99, see photo at left) and one will win an electronic scrolling banner
showing the value of BGMC by displaying images of various projects BGMC has
helped with (value of $300).
Why should you set a goal? Because setting a goal gives you a target to work for. It will inspire you and your church to do its best to reach that goal. Without a goal, there is nothing to work for. It's easy to forget about BGMC and to just occasionally throw in a token offering. Setting a goal causes you to be creative with fund-raising and gives you an incentive to keep on working. It also builds the faith of the kids as they see the BGMC goal being met. Click here to read an entire article about goal setting.
Secondly, we have set a national BGMC goal for the first time in history. That goal for 2009 is 6 million dollars. BGMC has been at 5.7 million for the past several years. It would be great to break the 6-million mark for the 60th anniversary. If BGMC breaks 6 million dollars, then David Boyd the national BGMC director will do a Polar Bear Plunge into the icy waters of Table Rock Lake in Branson, Missouri, in February of 2010 during the big district director's conference. In fact, many of our district directors have also committed to do the Polar Bear Plunge if their districts meet their 2009 district BGMC goal. Contact your district director to see if he or she is willing to do the Polar Bear Plunge. (By the way, you might want to consider doing your own plunge (or your senior pastor) by setting a church goal. You can even come and join us in Branson if you want to!)
Along with this challenge, Alton Garrison, assistant general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, said he would also do the Polar Bear Plunge if BGMC reaches 7 million dollars. To make this even more interesting, Doug Clay, general treasurer of the Assemblies of God, said that if Alton jumps in, he will also jump in and do the Polar Bear Plunge. This could be quite the event!
The Polar Bear Plunge will be video-taped for all to see.
So let's make BGMC's 60th anniversary the BIGEST year in the history of BGMC, so that we can reach more people with the gospel message and help those in need Like Never Before!
