BGMC National Director Reports Record Giving

BGMC is setting a record pace in giving for 2009, and the goal is to raise $6 million during BGMC's 60th anniversary year.

For the past several years, BGMC has continued to see an increase in annual giving from local churches of over $5.7 million per year.  If BGMC reaches its $6 million goal, David Boyd, national BGMC director, will accept his challenge to do a Polar Bear Plunge into the icy waters of Table Rock Lake in Branson Missouri. The plunge will take place during the February 2010 meetings with district directors and district children's ministries directors. District directors across the nation have also set annual giving goals, and if their goals are met they will join Boyd in the Polar Bear Plunge.

"We're currently running 3.54 percent ahead of last year," says David Boyd, national director of BGMC. "Why is that important? We must end the year 4.01 percent ahead in order to break our giving record, which will make me take the Polar Bear Plunge.

"This goal is very doable if every church does just a little more this year than last year," Boyd continues. "Currently 27 of our districts are above their normal giving, praise the Lord!"

Along with this challenge, Alton Garrison, assistant general superintendent of the Assemblies of God, said he would also do the Polar Bear Plunge if BGMC reaches 7 million dollars.

"This could be quite the event," says Boyd, "And it will be video-taped for all to see."
