Happy Birthday BGMC!
The BGMC ministry was started in 1949. That means 2009
marks 60 years of meeting critical needs around the world and 60 years of
teaching kids to have a heart of compassion for the lost and needy of the world.
We here at the BGMC office are SO excited to be celebrating this BIG event!
BGMC will be celebrating Buddy's birthday during the year 2009, but the BIG day will be National BGMC Day, March 8, 2009. (Feel free to celebrate Buddy's birthday any day that works best for you.) A BGMC birthday packet is being mailed to every BGMC-giving church. This packet includes a commemorative newsletter with lots of historical information, a flyer showing all the birthday resources that are available, a sample of the commemorative offering box that will be used during 2009, a gift from BGMC for each church, a birthday poster made for kids, an anniversary poster made for adults, and a special bookmark. Be sure to look through the resource flyer. Many of the resources to commemorate this event will only be available during 2009. Some will also have a limited supply. We are also featuring resources that you can buy to decorate and celebrate by having a big birthday party-such as a giant inflatable birthday cake with Buddy stickers, birthday hats with BGMC birthday stickers, and more. Many of the birthday resources would make great Christmas gifts for your kids and workers.
Also enclosed in the packet is a free birthday DVD containing video clips and slide presentations. Show the video clips to the kids and the adults. Use the birthday slide presentation to teach the kids about the history of BGMC. Use the project slide presentations to show the critical needs BGMC has met. The project slide presentations are also great to have running before or after church, at a banquet, or at other big events.
Start planning now how you will celebrate this event at your church. Here are some ideas:
- Have giant BGMC birthday party that includes cake and other goodies.
- Have a special BGMC banquet.
- Invite a missionary to share how BGMC has blessed their ministry.
- Challenge your kids to give Buddy an extra special present by raising extra money for BGMC.
- Do a special church-wide fund-raising event for Buddy's birthday.
- Take up a special birthday / anniversary
offering from the adults.
- Include Buddy's birthday in all of your March Missions Madness events.
Take a step of faith and set your 2009 goal higher than you've ever done before.
Due to lots of requests, we've brought back the wooden barrel banks for you to purchase (item 715-209) as a commemorative of the first BGMC offering container. (NOTE: The wooden barrel will not be in stock until January. It will not appear on the GPH Web site until it is in stock.) This bank is an exact replica except it has an updated label. We only have a limited supply, so don't wait to own a piece of BGMC history. Kids and adults will also love the commemorative Buddy box that was created just for 2009.
