I just wanted to share a testimony of how God has helped us to exceed our pledge of $1,000.00. We haven't ever given much to BGMC in the past. As the Children's Church Director here at Calvary Temple, I wanted our kids to learn about the importance of giving to missions. So, we took a leap of faith and challenged ourselves to give $1,000.00 this year.
I knew this would be a challenge because 95% of our children's church consists of bus kids. However, with God's help, I knew we could do it.
We passed out the Buddy Barrels to the children and later to the congregation. We chose one Sunday of each month as BGMC Sunday. On that morning, the boys and girls would collect money from the congregation and dump it into the buckets that Buddy Barrel holds.
For a while, the offerings were under $100.00. So, our pastor challenged the kids that if we could get at least $200.00 his wife would cut off his tie! The next month we raised almost $300.00.
The next challenge was to exceed $300.00. If we could do that, then brother Vickery would preach from the carport in his overalls. With God's help, we raised over $620.00!
Our final challenge for December was to exceed our November offerings. If we did, Pastor Vickery would preach with blue hair! And you guessed it, God helped us to raise over $695.00!
In January, we really wondered if we would collect the $1,000. But the year is over and God has helped us to reach our goal 1 and 1/2 times over!
I just wanted to say "Thank you" for making a program that involves children in giving to missions. Thank you for the missions curriculum you send each year. Through it, our children really see how important their giving is.
In January 2001, most of our children hardly knew what a missionary was. And now, through their giving, they feel like they are all missionaries! We love you Buddy Barrel!
