After God's Heart

David Boyd, national director, BGMC

"I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart" (Acts 13:22). What a statement for God to say. Wouldn't you like to be the person who has sought God so much-the person who served Him so much and sacrificed so much that God would say that about you? It's quite a statement. Yet interestingly, the statement wasn't made after David's great battle with Goliath or his service as king. It was first stated about David in 1 Samuel 13:14, when he was but a teen.

God had announced His plan to replace Saul as king. He had already found his replacement, "a man after His own heart." This man was David. At the time God called him, he was no more than an older teenager. He had not yet proved his faith by his battle against Goliath. He was no more than a shepherd, watching his father's sheep. While a young man, God saw his heart and chose him for it.

It is interesting that God sees our hearts and chooses us when we choose Him. It wasn't David's accomplishments that impressed God; it was his heart. Likewise, when David sinned, it wasn't his sin God dwelt upon. Yes, he was punished, but when David repented God forgave him and used him.

God is looking for people to love Him with all their hearts. The end of the verse quoted above says, "I have found David, son of Jesse, a man after my own heart. He will do everything I ask him to do." Part of God's assessment of us is our willingness to do what He has asked us to do.

The great commission makes it clear what God asks us to do: We are to let the whole world know about Him. That's the purpose of BGMC-to help our missionaries reach the world.

Thanks for all you do. Strive after God's heart, and make it your goal to impact the world in every way you can.
