Being a Discovery Ranger will give a
boy many chances to do new things. He will learn new skills,
like camping, building models, giving
first aid, and cooking. He will learn about the
great outdoors and about God and His Word. Royal Rangers
will give him the chance to be rewarded for finishing
merits and steps on the Advancement Trail.
The boy will go to new heights on the "Trail
to the Gold Eagle." As he follows the trail, he'll work
on merits, and every time he finishes a set of merit requirements,
he will receive a new patch. As he earns merits he
will also have the chance to complete a new advancement
step.
After completing each set of steps and
a few other requirements, he'll have a chance to earn
three medals:
There are several ways to earn the merits on the Trail
to the Eagle. Some of the merits will be earned during
the weekly meetings, while others will require extra
effort outside of meeting times. The merits can be earned
in any order, and while the Gold Eagle has specific merits
that are required,
the other merits that are earned are up to the individual
Ranger's choice.
Below is a basic explanation
of the requirements for the Gold Eagle Medal. For complete
details and helpful charts to help the Ranger
track his progress through earning all of the Discovery
Rangers medals, consult the Discovery
Rangers Handbook.
