Brittney Wilson, the daughter of Pastors Allen and Debbie Seenarine Wilson of Impact Church in Chardon, Ohio, had the opportunity to minister to other students following the fatal shooting of three students and wounding of two others at her Chardon high school.

Authorities have charged 17-year-old T.J. Lane with three counts of aggravated murder and two counts of attempted aggravated murder. The boy is accused of firing 10 rounds from a .22-caliber pistol at students sitting at a cafeteria table on February 27.

Brittney says she walked out of the cafeteria past the alleged shooter moments before the chaos began. As she sat in her French class that morning, she could hear the shots being fired, Brittney said. In a lockdown situation, the 14-year-old girl suggested that she lead in a prayer for protection, and most of her classmates joined hands.

Later, in a Fellowship of Christian Athletes-sponsored prayer vigil at a nearby high school, Brittney and both her parents addressed 500 people.

"I spoke about eternity and about the need to make the short time we have on earth count for Jesus," says Brittney, who serves as president of the freshman class.

At a public memorial service, Brittney sang the song "Blessings," which asks "What if the trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise?"
